About
During my Fall semester of 2019, I was enrolled in Concepts in Art Education. This course is built to prepare Colorado State University Students to enter the education world through the introduction, discussion, and exploration of the artistic learning process. The concepts discussed are most accurately described as mentioned in the course syllabus:
“The intent of this course is to introduce students to concepts of how artistic learning occurs in children, adolescents, and adults-including special populations. Additionally, students will investigate how these concepts shaped art education practice in the past and how it continues to influence current pedagogical practice. This class is meant to provide a foundation for later course work in art education and K-12 art teaching… Over the course of the semester, students will be introduced to research--some of it contradictory--to understand how and why children, adolescents, and adults seek to express themselves in a visual manner."
Alongside the coursework assigned within Concepts in Art Education, I was also granted the opportunity to work with a group of students with various learning styles outside of class. The organization which I volunteer co-taught for, Artistic Abilities, met once a week for a two-hour period. Alongside three other colleagues from my Art 325 class, we created new lesson plans each week and introduced them to our class through co-teaching methods. After each class session, we would each write a reflection through the form of a journal entry and blog analyzing our experience--successes, failures, enlightenments, and details to reference in the future.
